New Roots project closure, December 2023

I am sad to announce that the New Roots project will be ending at the end of this year. New Roots is the partnership project between Refugee Council, RETAS, and Path Yorkshire, that supports recently recognised refugees in Leeds. It has been a fantastic partnership for the past five years, but unfortunately must come to an end due to our AMIF funding finishing.

New Roots will formally end on 31/12/23. However RETAS, Path Yorkshire and Refugee Council will all continue to support people in Leeds independently.

I’ve summarised below the changes you can expect to take place post-December 2023:

  • RETAS have planned for continued provision of move on advice, housing, welfare, education and employability support into 2024.
  • PATH Yorkshire will have continued but limited capacity for employability support into 2024.
  • Refugee Council’s social integration activities (weekly conversation club and women’s exercise group) will continue, but lead instead by Leeds City Council resettlement team and Leeds Playhouse.
  • The Refugee Council immigration advice service will come to an end.

On behalf of everyone at New Roots, we want to thank you for all your wonderful support over the past five years. It’s been a privilege to work with many fantastic individuals, colleagues, partners and volunteers and we look forward to a time when we can continue our work together in the future.

If you have any questions please contact me at [email protected]. Thank you
