Refugee Council & IKEA Employability course Leeds and More Online Courses – Open for Referrals! Feb/March 24

The Refugees Into Jobs team of the Refugee Council are announcing that they are open for referrals for their IKEA employment course in Leeds along with 2 online courses coming up, please take a look at the flyers attached for more information and dates. The outlines are listed below!

 IKEA UPPNA Employability Course & Placement  in Leeds March 2024

    • This opportunity offers 4 days of pre-employment training on Zoom with a Refugee Council trainer and the chance to interview for an 8-week paid placement at the local IKEA store in Leeds. If successful, participants can apply internally for permanent positions or contract extensions if available on completion of their placement. So far, the majority of refugees who have completed the placement through this opportunity have been offered further employment at IKEA.  This is a promising opportunity for refugees to enter the job market with a reputable, understanding, and global employer. Please note that there are limited spaces available so we will be enrolling referrals as they come through but once we reach the capacity for this course, we will close referrals. Any referrals after this will be kept on the referral list for the next course.
  • PREPARE FOR WORK COURSE (Online):
    • A short course delivered over the course of 3 sessions in which CV writing, interviews and Cover Letter writing are covered.
  • WORKING IN THE UK (Online):
    • A 6-week advanced level course co-delivered with PWC which is due to start on the 16th of February (Although dates may change slightly). CV writing and cover letter writing are both covered in the course along with extensive mock interview practice with PWC volunteers and feedback on both interviews and CV’s.

Eligibility criteria for the IKEA Course specifically is:

  • Age 18 or over
  • ESOL entry level 3 as a minimum requirement
  • Refugee Status with BRP and permission to work
  • Currently living in a reasonably commutable distance from the IKEA in Leeds (Holden Ing Way, Birstall, Batley WF17 9AE)
  • Ability to commit availability of 20 hours a week for the paid work placement if successful

Please feel free to share flyers and the referral forms with interested clients!
