Treasurer opportunity with Islington Centre for Refugees and Migrants

Islington Centre for Refugees and Migrants are looking for their first Treasurer. Could this be you?

What will you be doing?

Islington Centre for Refugees and Migrants was founded in 1997 in the crypt of a church to help local asylum seekers in Islington.

The Centre has a dedicated and talented staff team including trained English Language teachers and those with legal and casework experience of working with refugees and asylum seekers. These skills are complemented by around 40 volunteers who provide direct support through activities. We also have in place accountancy support to the executive.

What you will do as a Treasurer

The Treasurer’s role is to take the lead in the provision of financial oversight by the Board of Trustees, support the CEO and accountant as needed, provide knowledge and assurance that we adhere to best governance practice and act as a sounding Board.

They will interpret information to support the Board for those who do not come from financial backgrounds to reach financial decisions, increase our collective understanding and confidence that as a combined Board we are carefully managing risk (financial and other).

We have in place a freelance accountant who works on the day-to-day bookkeeping and prepares our accounts and an Independent Examiner who reports on our financial statements in our Annual Report & Accounts.

What are we looking for?

We welcome applications from people wanting to take their first charity Treasurer role and will seek to provide relevant support.

These are the skills and experience we require:

  • Financial skills and experience.
  • Recognised accountancy qualification.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret financial information.
  • Ability to clearly communicate financial information to the Board.
  • Willingness to provide financial advice and support to the management team as needed.
  • Knowledge and experience of fundraising finance practice in voluntary and community organisations (desirable).

We will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis but the final closing date is Monday 30th January. First round interviews will be by Zoom with second in-person interviews at the Islington Centre, London on Wednesday 22nd February and Wednesday 1st March.
