The West Yorkshire Sub Regional Migration Group (WYSRMG) is a quarterly meeting where representatives from local authorities, the Police, Health, the voluntary sector, the Home Office, G4S and other key partners to focus on local issues of migration. It’s attended by reps from the Leeds Migration Partnership Strategy Group (last time it was Ruth from PAFRAS, Mary from Asylum Matters, Jon from LASSN)
The West Yorkshire Sub Regional Migration Group feeds into the Strategic Migration Group (SMG) for Yorkshire and Humber – which is facilitated by Migration Yorkshire. Migration Yorkshire describe their role in the SMG as follows
“Central Government provides funding to Migration Yorkshire to develop and support an effective Strategic Migration Group – what is often described as our ‘enabling role’. This gives Government, and the Home Office as its main agency, a point of contact to have a single strategic conversation with local authorities and others about the management and impact of migration.”
Why should you be bothered?
This probably is the most accessible forum of senior people working in Migration that LMP members can access. The people who attend this meeting are key decision-makers and influencers from Leeds and beyond. They exert influence at a local authority level, and also at a Home office and Governmental level. If there’s something important that you think needs to be addressed strategically across the region – it needs to land here.

We will always publish the minutes and papers if we can (ie if we get permission from Migration Yorkshire.) If we don’t publish here, it’s because they contain sensitive or confidential info, and we’ve been asked not to. You should still ask Ruth or Jon though, as they’ll be able to give you a verbal update.

Although you can’t just pitch up to meetings uninvited, it might still be helpful to know when they are – so you can make sure LMP Strategy members know what’s on your mind. The dates for the WYSRMG meetings have been set until summer 2019. The dates, times and locations are:
