Opinion poll – Refugees are Welcome!

You might have heard that we recently commissioned an opinion poll, to find out the views of people in Yorkshire and Humber about migration.

This is the third Migration Yorkshire poll, but the last one was back in 2020. The results are now on our website so do have a look. This includes a slide show which gives a one minute overview of the results. There’s also a news item describing the key findings.

Here are some key messages from the poll:

  • Yorkshire and Humber is seen as more welcoming to refugees than it was three years ago, and there’s more social interaction with people from migrant backgrounds
  • While Yorkshire residents are most likely to see migration as having a positive impact, some views have become more negative since the last poll
  • More than half of Yorkshire residents would like to support refugees in some way
  • There’s a broad consensus on providing refugee integration support – only a small minority thought support should not  be offered

With best wishes

Vicky Mulhern, Integration and Partnerships Officer
