Third Sector Leeds Position Statement Cost of Living Crisis

Dear LMP partners

Third Sector Leeds is a formal network of organisations with an interest in sustaining and developing a thriving third sector in Leeds. Third Sector Leeds have recently developed a Cost of Living Position Statement outlining “that we can only mitigate the worst impacts of the crisis on communities by working together to take radical, locally led, collective action – as we have shown that we can do during the COVID-19 pandemic. TSL is acutely aware of the financial challenges that statutory partners face, and will continue to face as the Cost of Living crisis deepens. However, the third sector is also impacted by the same challenges. Rising costs, rising demand, instability and workforce exhaustion may limit its ability to play a full partnership role in meeting the coming challenges without building further on the culture of trust-based investment that emerged through Covid-19”.

The full position statement is available here: https://doinggoodleeds.org.uk/news/third-sector-leeds-cost-of-living-position-statement/

LMP is represented at Third Sector Leeds by Nick Morgan (Chapeltown CAB) and Ali Mahgoub (Leeds Refugee Forum). At our recent LMP strategic meeting on 6th October Nick Morgan provided an update on the impact of the cost of living crisis. LMP discussed in the meeting some of the impact of this crisis on the migrant third sector.

Call to action: we invite you to read the Third Sector Leeds Cost of Living Crisis Position Statement and reply to this Google form with any additional concerns not considered within the paper that impacts the migrant third sector to ensure our collective voice feeds into this important work. Please submit by end of day 18th October. There are three questions as follows:

  1. Do you as a migrant third sector organisation agree with the concerns outlined in the position statement?
  2. Are there any additional considerations to put forward to Third Sector Leeds on the cost of living crisis position statement?
  3. Are there any practical way forward that you can suggest in addressing these concerns?
