Lots of questions about the 2021 Census on today’s LMP Zoom call.
Here are some resources to help you to decide the way forwards
- Paper on including asylum seekers in the census
- If you need census info in 30-something languages other than English
- If you are homeless
- If you want help to complete the form or find a local centre to help – here’s the list of those local to LASSN in Beeston. Or, you can contact the Census people directly on their national hotline
- Guidance on How to Complete the 2021 Census Form
- If you want to complete the census online
- People who do not complete the census may be fined up to £1,000 – although last time around, of the 1.6 million people who did not return them, fewer than 400 were referred by the ONS to the Crown Prosecutions Service, resulting in only 120 convictions, According to the ONS “The amount of fines imposed by the Courts so far vary between £50 -£350 with an order for costs of £85 in each case.”
- Although Census data remains anonymous for100 years, the information provided is not 100% confidential. Detailed information is routinely shared with OECD by all EU Member States, for example
We very helpfully got this note just now, from Jasmine at Refugee Council
“the Census call centre team have access to ‘The Big Word’ interpreting service when you call the free language helpline number: 0800 587 2021.
Apparently it’s possible to call this number and request a call back (at a specific date and time) from one of the Census advisors who will call with an interpreter and go through the questions with them.
Someone else can make the initial call on the behalf of the household/individual too, without them being present.”
