VCS update from Migration Yorkshire, December 23

Migrant Help update Oct 2023

Please find attached the latest update from Migrant Help. [Not attached]

Do you have an idea for a new piece of research or evaluation that could help your organisation, or the sector?

Migration Yorkshire has established a Yorkshire and Humber Migration Research Network for professional researchers as part of Refugee Integration Yorkshire and Humber (RIYH). Network members include academic researchers from higher education institutions across the region and beyond, with a diverse range of research interests linked to migration. The network provides a platform for sharing information and good practice, and for networking and potential collaboration opportunities – so for example, some of our events are open to interested practitioners too.

Research network members are interested in improving the links between research and practice. We’ve been exploring the potential for the network to help meet research needs of voluntary and community sector organisations. This could include for example, demonstrating the impact of a project through evaluative work, or evidencing a need in order to help with future funding bids. You might remember that a little while ago we asked what would be on your research ‘wish list’.

If some specific research or evaluation work would be particularly useful to you in the near future, please send us brief details. With your permission we will share this with the research network, to see if any members are in a position to help. This research could be undertaken as part of a student project, for example. Obviously we can’t guarantee there would be a network member in a position to facilitate this research, but we’re very happy to explore this possibility with the network.

Conversely, there may be students and researchers looking for research sites for projects already at the planning stages – if network members share details of these with us, we may approach you as VCS colleagues to see if you’d be interested in being involved in any of these.

If anyone would like to discuss any of this further please let me know. We hope that taking this approach could be of real mutual benefit to the migration support sector and research network members.
