Update: 13/7/23: Mears reporting Facebook scam relating to SAP
Update: 18/5/23 Iranian and Iraqi Asylum Seekers are now included in the Streamlined Asylum Process (SAP) for more details click here
According to the most recent information (from Migration Yorkshire) there are about 7400 asylum seekers support by Home Office living in Yorkshire and Humber.
The best info we have about the ‘Streamlined Asylum Processing’ Questionnaire comes
- Refugee Action has some excellent guides on the questionnaires (including translations) and template letters for extensions Streamlined Asylum Processing (ragp.org.uk)
- The Right to Remain guidance is also excellent
The asylum questionnaires will be sent to people from Afghanistan (175), Eritrea (565), Libya (no data available), Syria (261) and Yemen (no data available) – so this means about 1,000 people in Yorkshire and Humber will be receiving these letters.
LMP’s position
- If your org offers advice and support with completing these questionnaires – the org/staff/volunteers involved need to be OISC 2 accredited
- If you offer advice and support without OISC 2 accreditation, your group or organisation could be breaking the law. The Government take a very dim view of this
- If someone is looking for a Legal Aid solicitor – here’s the best way to find one.
If you are not able to provide accredited advice, please signpost people to the to this his fantastic self-help Toolkit in a variety of languages.
Meanwhile LMP’s Strategy Group are lobbying local and national government to rethink this approach.
