Some feedback from previous sessions:

  • I am going to feed back to our team manager about the quality of this training and promote colleagues to attend. I am going to be mindful of the language I use to avoid oppression and discrimination. And I am going to ensure my positionality as a social worker is ethically balanced by the rights of asylum seekers and refugees, and social work values.
  • Brilliant training, very honest and open about the conflicts of legalisation v rights v values.
  • It was a great training course with very passionate and knowledgeable trainers
  • I feel more confident to challenge negative narratives, the practice guidance for asylum process will be invaluable
  • has equipped me with a thorough understanding of legislation & practical support I can offer
  • I feel much more confident in supporting the asylum seekers and refugees on my caseload by understanding where they may be in their status journey and being able to spend more time focusing on them as an individual.
  • It has made me aware of unintentional harm in good intentions – being conscious of not acting in disempowering ways. It has also given me a solid base to work from.
  • being aware of the trauma people face and the process of the system and how that impacts on health and how I can help as a supportive mechanism
