Chapeltown Primary Care Network (PCN) Health Inequalities Fund £5-£15k for for work with Black men, with a focus on mental health

Chapeltown Primary Care Network (PCN), in collaboration with Forum Central has launched a £34,000 fund aiming to help us better understand and improve the health of Black men in the Chapeltown area of  Leeds, with a focus on mental health.

Black men experience health inequalities around mental health, and we know from conversations and relationships in Chapeltown that there is a stigma for Black men around consulting and accessing services around mental health. Many feel that the existing services are not accessible or appropriate for them.  Additionally, those who do access services often do at a late stage and are in need of more complex mental health support.

The core aims of the fund are:

  • To build and strengthen relationships between health services and people who live and work in Chapeltown and the voluntary and community sector who have trusted relationships in the communities.
  • To better understand the barriers to improving health and accessing health and care services.
  • To coproduce innovative ways to improve health and remove barriers to accessing health service.
  • To extend/build on existing work.
