Resource of the week #24: Updated Briefing on DBS checks

Does your organisation complete DBS checks on staff and volunteers? If you do, you should make sure you show this excellent resource from Newcastle CVS to someone senior in your organisation – because the rules on who can and can’t be DBS checked are complicated.

The Government’s own “Find out if you can check someone’s criminal record” tool is excellent – but the Newcastle CVS briefing is second to none, and explores the detail of what to do if you can’t get a Standard DBS or Enhanced DBS check done.

Jon at LASSN has also done a lot of work on this topic and published LASSN’s approach to Safeguarding on the LASSN website, as well as a briefing note on how LASSN approaches Volunteer background checks. He’s always up for a chat, so get in touch if you fancy discussing the finer points of this stuff with him.
