Asylum support rates – from January 2024

Asylum support rates

The Government have announced that asylum support rates will be changing on 8th January 2024. ASAN have reported that the key changes are:

  • An increase of standard weekly payments from £47.39 to £49.18.
  • A reduction of weekly payments to those in catered accommodation (hotels etc) from £9.58 to £8.86
  • An increase of weekly payments for pregnant women and children from 1-3yrs from £3 to £5.25 – please note this has been extended to include children who are 3 years old, the Home Office says children who are 3 will automatically have this payment added to their weekly allowance.
  • An increase of weekly payments for babies under 1 yr from £5 to £9.50
  • Maternity payments stay the same for those on s95. Maternity payments for those on s4 increase from £250 to £300, but there will be no provision for separate costs (eg the cost of a birth certificate). The timeframe within which people can apply for the maternity payment is extended – people can apply from 11 weeks before the birth to 6 months afterwards.
