Dear LMP members and readers,
The Home Office recently announced and commenced plans to resume eviction proceedings for those who have been refused asylum. Without immediate action, people across our communities could be forced into street homelessness and destitution in a matter of days and weeks.
This would not be acceptable under normal circumstances, but in the context of rising COVID infection rates across the UK, it is clearly unsafe and irresponsible.
Here in Leeds, we are extremely concerned that our services will not be able to meet the needs of those facing homelessness in our community.
Please see below a joint letter that members of LMP intend to send to Leeds City Council asking that they take urgent action to prevent the Home Office’s planned evictions from asylum accommodation.
