Volunteers: Latest opportunities with MAP+ (Migrant Access Project Plus)

It’s been a while since we covered developments at the excellent MAP Plus – so here’s an update

Migrant Community Health Educators
6 half-days of training provided starting w/c 10th September, finishing on 10th October.

  • Work with GP practices in the Hyde Park area to support people with their health and wellbeing.
  • Participants need to have good conversational English and at least one other community language.

Migrant Community Networkers
12 training sessions provided starting 17th September (every Monday) or 19th September (every Wednesday).

  • Use your experience to help others from your own community settle into Leeds, use services and have a voice with what happens in Leeds. Play an active role in your community.
  • Participants need to have good conversational English and at least one other community language.

Refreshments and travel expenses are provided for all training opportunities.

Buddies

  • Do you work with new arrivals who need some help to find out what’s available for them in Leeds and where to go? We have volunteer befrienders called Buddies who can support them.

Feedback from people we have been working with about the benefits of getting involved with MAP+ includes:

  • “This training was really outstanding…I’ve got so much information and learning out of it. I can’t ever thank you enough!”
  • “Before meeting you I have only been in the UK for 5 months, now I feel like I have 5 years in the UK.”
  • “My English has improved so much. Even more than in my ESOL class!”
