The Racial Justice Network and Yorkshire Resists are hosting a spring convening called “People before Profit: Community Resourcing” to discuss how to resource movements resisting the Hostile Environment and support grassroots justice efforts. This will focus on addressing the harm caused by the Home Office’s actions, such as deportations and restricting migrant rights, and exploring ways to strengthen the fight for justice.
In their Stop the Scan report, Profit Before People, they revealed that West Yorkshire Police spent over £2 million on racist surveillance technology. The convening will ask important questions about how resources can be better invested in communities and how to build resistance to state-based racism.
What would be possible if £2mil was invested in our community flourishing?
What does community resource building mean beyond just money?
How do we support one another to resist the Hostile Environment and state-based racism?
The objectives for the day include:
- Connection and Solidarity building (networking).
- Knowledge, skill, and strategy sharing.
- Exploring different models of community resourcing.
The event will include networking, knowledge sharing, and exploring models of community resourcing. It takes place on Saturday, April 12th, from 1 pm – 5 pm at the Quaker Meeting House, Leeds. An afternoon meal and refreshments will be provided.
