The theme for this year is the Power of Words and we already have 20+ free seminars covering different aspects of the hostile environment policy including

  • Asylum support 101;
  • Words matter: defying the narrative of migration
  • Legal aid 101
  • Evidence in Asylum Claims; How to Prepare a Supporting Letter
  • How to work with interpreters
  • Introduction to detention
  • and many more

Register for the launch: 18 March 2025

We will be opening this year’s series on World Social Work Day with an exciting online panel event featuring guest speakers

  • Nottingham East Labour MP Nadia Whittome,
  • independent researcher and campaigner Zoe Gardner,
  • Strategic Engagement Advisor Sabrina Huck and
  • Migrants rights activist, Sipilien Birani.

The panel will share invaluable insight into the existing migration narrative within the current government, why it is so important that we disrupt this narrative and how we can create change through our use of language.

Who can attend?

Whilst the training series targets specifically public authorities who are turned into “border guards” by the hostile environment, everyone is welcome 🙂

Please help share!

Stand Up Speak Out is an unfunded initiative coordinated by Migrants Organise, PAFRAS and Social Workers Without Borders, in collaboration with fantastic speakers from many different organisations.

We would be grateful if you can help share the series far and wide:

  • Share with colleagues, friends, family, and people you are supporting
  • Share in your network, newsletters, and other channels
  • Social media : bluesky post here
  • Send it to the public authorities (social workers, GPs, council workers) that you know!I am sure we all know those who are in desperate need of a bit more knowledge about how to support individuals subjected to the full brunt of the hostile environment 🙂
