We at Manuel Bravo Project would like to invite you to join us in celebrating our TENTH BITRHDAY (last year – a year that was to busy to celebrate in!), along with celebrating the amazing cultures and communities of Leeds. The event also marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and will take place during Refugee Week, now in its 20th year.
We have plenty to celebrate! And in order to do so, we’re working in partnership with Refugee Council to bring you
SOUNDS OF SANCTUARY: Unity – Solidarity – Freedom
A family friendly music and cultural event featuring workshops, food and performances that showcase the many languages and cultures of Leeds, especially amongst refugee communities.
The event is part-funded by Leeds Inspired and is FREE ENTRY!
There will be some free food and any asylum seekers who want to attend can get their travel reimbursed on production of a travel ticket.
We hope that you can come. We also hope you will help us spread the word. I have attached our flyer for the event to be circulated and printed. If you need the flyer in a different format please just get in touch. I have also attached the programme which contains a few more details.
We’re looking for volunteers on the night. If anyone would like to help that would be great – please get in touch! Or if you have any other ideas for how you can support the event (sponsorship and fundraising, contributing displays or decorations, offering a workshop etc) please also contact me.
The event will also include a multilingual open mic, so please spread the word that we are looking for performers! Since it is an open mic we don’t need professional levels of musicianship, just people who know a song or spoken word piece in a language other than English or relating to the migrant experience and would like to share it.
