Sanctuary in Parliament 2018 – write to your MP

via Leeds City Of Sanctuary

Sanctuary in Parliament 2018 will soon be upon us

You can find more info about this years event here and also read about past SiPs here and here

It’s a great opportunity to engage with our MPs on refugee issues and influence their decision making processes to ensure the UK is a better place for those seeking sanctuary.

The overarching theme this year is for a fairer more compassionate asylum system- with the more specific aims being to secure:

1) The right to work for asylum seekers who’ve been waiting longer than 6 months for a decision on their asylum claim

2) An end to indefinite immigration detention

3) Extension of refugee family reunion

It would be great if we could invite the Leeds MPs to attend. The Leeds MPs are:

  • Elmet and Rothwell- Alec Shelbrooke (C)
  • Leeds North West- Alex Sobel (L)
  • Leeds Central- Hillary Benn (L)
  • Leeds West- Rachel Reeves (L)
  • Leeds East- Richard Burgon (L)
  • Morley and Outwood- Andrea Jenkyns (C)
  • Leeds North East- Fabian Hamilton (L)
  • Pudsey- Stuart Andrew (C)

National City of Sanctuary have kindly provided us with a template letter we can send to MPs, this is attached below

It’s also a great opportunity for people with direct experience of seeking sanctuary to visit Parliament and meet their MP so please cast the net wide for attendees

Thanks for your help
