Refugee and Asylum Seeker Support –

  • Migrant Help telephone advice and guidance for asylum support, and repairs issues is now open 24/7.
  • Meeting Point are running a drop-in 15:00-18:00 on Monday 23rd and Monday 30th December focussed on providing food provision and a warm, friendly social space for refugees and asylum seekers.
  • PAFRAS Christmas Party is happening on Wednesday 18th December 10:00 – 13:00 and will be the last one until Wednesday 8th January 2020
  • Let’s hope noone needs to use these Resources for people who have been detained – but better to know about them than not

Food –

The fabulous Leeds Food Aid network have published

  • a list of all the places offering free food and welcome that they know about over the Christmas period (Thursday 19th December to Saturday 4th January). This includes Christmas parties, meals, drop-ins, outreaches and the provision of small food parcels, which are all free.
  • All of this is in addition to the usual City Centre Map: showing some of the drop-in food provision and services that are available in Leeds city centre, particularly for people who are homeless.

Mental Health and Wellbeing –

Homelessness/Accommodation –

Asylum Seekers

  • Emergency accommodation for asylum seekers is hard to find over the Christmas period. LASSN’s Grace Hosting scheme will not take new referrals after 20th December until 6th January 2020.
  • Although the WYDAN Winter Shelter is open, referrals can only be made by British Red Cross and PAFRAS.
  • St George’s Crypt will only usually take refugees or people with the right to remain in the UK.
  • If temperatures drop beneath zero degrees overnight then the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol kicks in and anyone can find shelter, regardless of their immigration status. You can find out if the SWEP has been declared by looking at the Street Support Website. Check daily after 3pm
