Resource of the week #72: Cultural Atlas – 68 cultural profiles

We’ve previously posted some resources designed to help people understand more about the socio-political background/situations of different countries around the world.

This week’s resource is slightly different – an Australian resource, which attempts to give short, pithy summaries about understanding culture, manners and other things. It’s designed to help people connect more rapidly with friends and neighbours from around the world.

Obviously, this has the potential to go horribly wrong, and create/reinforce unhelpful stereotypes (imagine a cultural profile of British counties: “Yorkshire folk are generally grumpy, obstructive, and tight with money“) – but we reckon this is a pretty decent attempt at doing a very difficult thing. It’s written for an Australian audience, but is no less useful for all that.

As you can see from the screenshot below there’s a lot to go at: and there are 68 profiles so far.
