Resource of the week #50 : Criminal records checks and GDPR

If your org completes background checks on volunteers, it’s important you do these lawfully.

A lot of orgs now require volunteers and staff to complete Basic Checks if the roles are ineligible for DBS checks.

It’s also important that your org complies with data protection regulation ie GDPR, which says you have to be really clear (and have it written down in policy) when and why you are seeking background information, and the legal grounds for doing so.

Unlock have published some really helpful guidance on this that you, your senior manager, or your board will want to read.

  • Please follow the link below for more guidance on how to do this in a fair, lawful and timely manner.
