Refugee Support Grant, for local communities supporting refugees

[Ed: originally posted on VAL website in April, but we’d not heard of it til this week ;o)]

Refugee Support Grant

Asda’s charity, Asda Foundation, is committed to supporting local communities through grant giving. In light of the recent conflict in Ukraine the Asda Foundation is providing grants to better support refugees joining communities across the UK.

The Refugee Support Grant is designed to support a broad range of activities helping to support these communities and help individuals and families to settle into their new surroundings and enable them to thrive in these communities.

How do Asda Foundation grants work?
Each Asda superstore has a Community Champion, and their role is to support groups and projects within the community, as well as managing Asda Foundation grant applications. The Community Champion in your local superstore will support you in completing your application and will submit the application to the Foundation on your behalf.  Asda cannot accept application direct from groups.

Grants are for £500 to £1,500.  Applications can be accepted any time during the year with no deadline dates. Applications take 6-8 weeks to process.

What costs can be funded?

One off costs for specialist support such as:
• A language teacher to support refugees learning/improving their English skills
• A translator to help families get setup
• A counsellor to support people with mental health support
• Play therapists

Or

• Home-starter packs. Packs might include: bedding, cutlery, towels, kitchen utensils
• Items for a clothes bank
• Evening English language classes
• Youth club for children
• Pre-school play scheme

(please note this is not an exhaustive list, just an example of what Asda might fund).
