Race, Inequality, and the Legacy of Historical Injustices within Policing – 28th Jan 2021

Following the death of George Floyd in the USA and protests across the world, policing leaders from across the UK committed to further action around issues of diversity and inclusion and addressing concerns about racial inequalities, including the experiences of Black, Asian and minority ethnic people, in policing and the criminal justice system.

West Yorkshire Police is committed to tackling the inequalities within policing. Engaging a wider range of voices and perspectives is vital to recognising the legacy of historical injustices within policing and owning up to our failings.

Focus now needs to be on action

Communities’ concerns will form the bedrock of our agenda for change and an Independent Scrutiny and Advisory Group will be set up to agree the ambition, the priority issues and action we will take in response.

The Independent Scrutiny and Advisory Group will consist of community members from across West Yorkshire and those who can bring about change.

We will work together to design the right programme set-up, membership and governance.

We are seeking members who can draw on a range of experiences to challenge, scrutinise, advise and collaborate to bring about the change communities want to see.

The first Independent Scrutiny and Advisory Group meeting will take place on: Thursday 28th January 2021 at 6pm to 8pm

The meeting will take place online via MS Teams
