Representative to the Strategic Regional Migration Group (SRMGs)
This is a call for appointing a Leeds Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) representative to the SRMGs.
Migration Yorkshire has been working over the last 18 months to improve VCS representation at Sub Regional Strategic Migration Group meetings to ensure the voices of migrants and those supporting them are heard at that strategic level. Duncan Wells has kindly been the representative for Leeds for the last year.
The purpose of the SRMGs is to assist the Strategic Migration Group (SMG) to provide a strategic leadership, advisory and coordination function in the region and to provide a forum for senior representatives of Local Authorities, Police, Health, Home Office, asylum accommodation and support contract providers and other key partners (including representatives from the voluntary sector) within sub regions.
The core responsibilities include:
Representing the views of all Voluntary Community Sector organisations who work with migrants within the allocated local authority area at Strategic Regional Migration Group by:
- Attending a minimum of 3 meetings a year
- Acting as a conduit for all information between SMG, SRMG, multi-agency meetings, and the wider VCS within your local authority area
- Acting as the voice of the VCS in your local authority area regardless of personal or organisational views
There is now a nomination process in each local authority in Yorkshire & Humberside so the VCS in each area can select it’s own representative to attend Sub Regional Strategic Migration Group meetings for 2020-2021. Leeds Migration Partnership have offered to start the nomination process in Leeds and have attached the role description and terms of reference for the meeting.
Anyone is interested in taking up this role for Sept 2020-Aug 2021 please send a short bio (no more than 500 words) at [email protected] . Deadline for nominations is 31st August. After that a voting process will start. If there is only one candidate, the VCS still should agree that they should be the representative.
