Operation PITTING cases in community (refugees from Kabul) – escalating cases for caseworking by the Home Office

via Sam Powell at LCC

The Home Office have requested any enquires in relation to families who were evacuated from Kabul to the UK as part of Operation PITTING (August 2021) who are not currently living in Home Office bridging hotel accommodation or in properties are facilitated through the Local Authority (LA) resettlement programme.

This largely applies to families who left quarantine or bridging accommodation to live independently or stay with friends or relatives. Many of these families were granted 6 months Limited Leave to Enter in August so will be approaching the expiry date of their current status. The Home Office is working on a system where families can self-refer to be case worked and apply for ILR. In the meantime, Strategic Migration Partnerships have been asked to collate any cases that LAs are currently aware of in order for the Home Office casework team to contact them.

We therefore ask for services or organisations who are contacted by families who fit the above criteria to pass on the contact details for Cath Dearlove [email protected] and Moira Burke [email protected] (Resettlement Team, Safer Stronger Communities Team, LCC) who will discuss with them the process in order for the Home Office to contact individuals and families to process applications for Indefinite Leave to Remain.
