Mental Health Resources for refugees, asylum seekers, and people who work alongside them – June 2025

If you’re working with refugees, asylum seekers, or people seeking sanctuary, having the right knowledge and tools can make all the difference. Three excellent resources are available locally to help improve your cultural understanding, confidence, and practical support skills:

🔹 Free Mental Health First Aid Training – Funded by Being You Leeds
This two-day, in-person course qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aider and is ideal for people supporting others through community work or lived experience. You’ll learn how to:

  • Recognise signs of emotional distress
  • Respond with confidence and compassion
  • Use non-judgemental listening to support others
  • Guide people towards professional help and recovery
  • You’ll also gain a deeper understanding of the factors that affect mental health and wellbeing.

🔹 Solace: Helpful Resources for Refugees and People Seeking Safety
Solace has pulled together a wide range of trauma-informed materials designed specifically for people supporting those fleeing conflict, persecution, and displacement. From wellbeing tools to practical guides, these resources are ideal for frontline workers, volunteers, and host communities.

🔹 LASSN: Resources for Volunteers working with Refugees and People Seeking Safety

LASSN has created simple, practical mental health guides for volunteers working with people from Afghanistan, Eritrea, Iran, Iraq, Yemen, and Vietnam. More are coming soon.
