We are excited to launch a new postgraduate course in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) on Leeds Trinity University Horsforth campus in September 2025. The course can be studied full-time or part-time. Designed for holders of an undergraduate degree in the Social Sciences or Humanities, the programme provides graduates with the linguistic knowledge, critical awareness and language skills to pursue or enhance a career in English language teaching and language-related fields.
Course content: The programme features modules on second language acquisition and use, English language teaching, as well as English language, applied linguistics and TESOL research, with a focus on social justice and a critical examination of the role of English(es) around the world. Modules include up to 48 contact hours, enabling discussion-based learning and tailored support. Students will complete a range of assignments, from more traditional essays and presentations to innovative formats such as micro-teaching, podcasting and negotiated assessments, as well as a dissertation.
Professional placement or CELTA: MA TESOL at Leeds Trinity University stands out through its strong commitment to employability and continuing professional development. As part of their course, students either complete a professional placement in a relevant sector, possibly their own employer or place where they volunteer, or they may undertake a CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), which will open the door to teaching English as a second or foreign language in the UK and around the world or simply enhance teaching skills.
Further information: The next Postgraduate Open Evening will be held on Wednesday 7th May. Find out more about MA TESOL.
