Lift the Ban Yorkshire Event: Day of Action for the right to work for people seeking asylum – 4th July

Lift the Ban is a coalition made up of over 200 organisations, businesses, faith groups and unions, many of them Yorkshire based, who are campaigning for the right to work for people seeking asylum in the UK.

After much campaigning, the Home Office have finally agreed to review their policy on permission to work. The review is currently underway and the Lift the Ban coalition have called a ‘Month of Action’ across the UK to make sure the voices and experiences of those affected by the ban are heard throughout the review process, to show that support for this policy change is strong and widespread, and so that pressure remains on the Home Secretary, Sajid Javid, to do the right thing and reform the policy now.

In Yorkshire we’ve seen brilliant actions and events held across the region, including in Leeds, Huddersfield, Bradford, Sheffield, Halifax, Harrogate, Ripon, Skipton, Wakefield & more.

To make one final collective statement that Yorkshire demands a fair and humane asylum system, where sanctuary seekers are treated with dignity and humanity, we are calling anyone who supports the right to work for people seeking asylum to join us on Thursday 4th July at 2pm at Leeds Kirkgate Open Market for a event with speeches from campaigners with lived experience, local MPs and Councillors & performances by local artists and musical groups.

Please email [email protected] with any questions, or if you’d like to order some paper flyers to distribute.

Hope to see you there!
