We are very happy to share that Leeds City Council have committed to joining the City of Sanctuary LA Network and working towards becoming a Council of Sanctuary.
The City of Sanctuary Local Authority Network aims :-
- To support the development of a network of local authorities that are working towards the City of Sanctuary vision
- To promote the embedding of a culture and practice of welcome in local authorities to support the City of Sanctuary theory of change
You can read more about the CoS LA Network and the Award Scheme for Councils of Sanctuary in the presentation attached below or on their website here.
I’ve also attached the minutes from our initial meeting with LCC on 1st September (see below).
To be awarded as a Council of Sanctuary, Leeds City Council will need to develop an action plan, in partnership with VCS partners in Leeds, to show that they meet certain critera and have committed to the principles of learn, embed and share.
You can read more about the step by step process for gaining an award here.
This is a really exciting opportunity for us to work with LCC to spread a culture of welcome in the council and in turn in our city.
Anyone in Leeds who would like to be involved in this piece of work is very welcome.
The next step will be to meet with the Executive Member for Communities at LCC, Councillor Mary Harland, to discuss LCC’s action plan.
Once we’ve set a date for this meeting (likely in the next few months), I will share the details here so that anyone from LMP who would like to join can do so. We can also discuss the award and the agenda at the LMP meetings beforehand.
Please get in touch with me at [email protected] if you would like to know more or get involved. All welcome!
