Job: Volunteers Manager, English at Home 23hrs/wk, NJC SO1 33-36k (pro rata) – Leeds Asylum Seekers Support Network

The English at Home project matches volunteer tutors with refugee and asylum seeker learners who are unable to attend mainstream English classes – often because of caring responsibilities or because of a disability or health problems.

  • Salary: NJC Scale SO1 (£SCP23 (£33,366) – SCP25 (£35,235) pro rata) depending on experience
  • Hours: 23 hours a week (Full time is 37 hours a week)
  • Contract: Fixed. Funding secured until September 2025
  • Location: LASSN office, 22-23 Blayds Yard LS1 4AD

The English at Home project matches volunteer tutors with refugee and asylum seeker learners who are unable to attend mainstream English classes – often because of caring responsibilities or because of a disability or health problems.

The Volunteers Manager will share responsibility (with an existing Volunteers Manager) for recruiting, training and matching volunteers to design and deliver classes to their learner, often in a learner’s home, or another suitable venue. They will also support the development of new learning opportunities for asylum seekers and refugees, based on feedback from Learners and Tutors.

The person we appoint will

  • have at least 12 months’ experience of supporting volunteers,
  • enjoy working flexibly in a small, friendly team.
  • share LASSN’s commitment to ensuring asylum seekers, refugees and other migrants at risk of harm are safe, respected, supported and empowered to rebuild their lives free of persecution;
  • have a commitment to helping ordinary people find ways of making Leeds a friendlier, more welcoming city.
  • be confident working with IT (including Microsoft Office) and
  • enjoy helping other people learn and acquire new skills

Their can-do approach, and ability to complete tasks to agreed deadlines will play a key role in the smooth running of a team that values diversity, kindness, and high standards of support.
