Improving health support for refugees and asylum seekers’ conference: 14th December 2017

Over the past 3 years the Refugee Council’s Health Access has been delivered in Doncaster, Hull, Leeds, Middlesborough (in partnership with the North of England Refugee Service), Sheffield (in partnership with City of Sanctuary) and Wakefield.

The purpose of this conference is:

  • To celebrate the achievements of the programme, recognizing and publicly applauding the contribution of our volunteers and clients
  • To disseminate learning and good practice
  • To raise awareness about barriers encountered by newly arrived asylum
seekers and refugees in accessing health and wellbeing services
  • To share our vision of a future model to improve health access

The target audience is the voluntary and community sector, health and social care professionals, funders, statutory organizations and the refugee and asylum seeking
community.

We will also be highlighting the impact of the new ‘NHS Charging Regulations’ on refugees and asylum seekers and discussing ways to raise awareness and prepare vulnerable groups for this forthcoming change in policy.
