Hope not Hate Games and Food event on Saturday 18th Feb 14:00-16:00

via Hope not Hate

HOPE not hate is organising a day of Games & Food event on Saturday 18th February at Harehills Working Men’s Club, and wants to know of any refugee/migrant groups who’d be up for joining them.

“What we’re aiming for is to get locals and members of our migrant communities (new and established) to come together and share a space that’s open to dialogue and fun, and maybe even a chance of learning a new skill. We’re hoping that a relaxed and fun environment will help to challenge some stereotypes and have people start conversations with people they perhaps would not have done so with before.

It’s going to be a sort of “game exchange”: we’re planning a few games ourselves (ping pong, cribbage, dominoes, chess, etc.) but it’s also going to be a “bring your own game” event, so if anyone wants to come and teach us a particular game we might not have heard of before, they’re more than welcome! Free food is provided!

But I should also say that discussions about immigration might take place, so I’d want anyone who wants to come to be aware of it. We’ll do everything we can to make it a safe environment for everyone and I’m honestly not expecting any trouble, but I’m also aware that it’s a sensitive topic if you’re personally affected by it.”
