Key points from Home Office/Strategic Migration Partnership meeting – 28th Jan 2021

via Ally, the Leeds Voluntary Sector Rep

  • Intake & occupancy – Home Office are seeing approximately 400-450 new arrivals per week. The current hotel population is approximately 9350 and for hotels and circa 10000 for all contingency accommodation (including MOD sites).
  • ASPEN – the asylum support payments contract is in the process of transition to new providers and Home Office hope to fully complete transition over to the new ASPEN card by the end of February.
  • Cessations – there is still no indication of when negative discons may resume due to the ongoing court case and the current national lockdown.
  • Vaccinations – Home Office have written to Public Health England to set out a plan to ensure SUs are supported adequately upon arrival and ensure any SU who needs a vaccine receives it in line with the priority groups list. Measures include looking at testing in early stages of arrival into the accommodation system, assistance with registering with GPs and communications upon dispersal. A written update will be shared soon providing these details.
