Free training course for migrants starting on 26 April – places available

Do you work with migrants who have moved to Leeds, and would like to play an active part in their community, gain confidence and experience and meet new people?

Places are available on the next free training course for migrants run by the Migrant Access Project Plus, which starts on Thursday 26 April.

The training starts initially at the Discovery Centre, LS10 1LB, before moving to Leeds Art Gallery. It runs for 14 weeks, with travel expenses paid and lunch provided.

The training empowers migrants to become Migrant Community Networkers, learning what’s available in Leeds and how to access it, enabling them to play an active role in their community and help others who are new to Leeds.

Attendees will learn about education, employment, childcare, community groups, health, housing and more.

People who have already taken the training have told us that being part of MAP+ has:

  • increased their confidence
  • given them the chance to practise their English
  • allowed them to make new friends
  • helped them gain a better understanding of what’s available to them and others in their community.

Attendees can be from anywhere in Leeds, but must be prepared to work on projects and activities in the Holbeck, Beeston or Armley areas. They also need to be able to speak and understand English to a level equivalent to about Entry Level 3.
