Free Capacity Building Workshops for Refugee And Asylum Seekers – from Healthy Communities Together October 24 – January 25

This is a series of workshops hosted by Yorkshire MESMAC and Leeds Asylum Seekers Support Network on behalf of Healthy Communities Together.  Participants are invited to come to all of them. The workshops will be held in English.   


Create Your Future

When: Wednesday 23rd October, or Wednesday 6th November at 11am-1pm

Where: LASSN, 22-23 Blayds Yard, Leeds, LS1 4AD

About: Join us for a thought-provoking 2-hour workshop where you’ll pause, reflect on your journey, and begin shaping the future you aspire to achieve. “Create Your Future” offers a unique opportunity to connect with others from your community, explore your skills, experiences, and passions, and imagine the impact you wish to make on the world.

Your friendly facilitator will guide you through activities designed to help you gain insight into your past and find inspiration for the path ahead. We’ll also focus on setting small, achievable steps to start turning your hopes into reality, one step at a time.

Key Areas Covered:

  • · Reflecting on past experiences to identify strengths and passions.
  • · Envisioning an aspirational future for yourself and your community.
  • · Setting practical, achievable steps to begin realising your vision.

Facilitation & Peer Support Skills

When: Wednesday 13th November, or Wednesday 27th November at 11am-1pm

Where: LASSN, 22-23 Blayds Yard, Leeds, LS1 4AD

About: Whether you’re new to leadership and facilitation or looking to enhance your existing skills, this workshop offers valuable insights for anyone interested in supporting their community. You’ll learn how to create safe and inclusive spaces, improve your listening skills, and gain practical strategies for training and guiding others in community settings.

Key Areas Covered:

  • Facilitating groups with a focus on safety, inclusivity, and setting expectations.
  • Developing effective listening skills to better support peers.
  • Learning training techniques to empower others through peer support.

Confidence & Advocacy

When: Wednesday 4th December, or Wednesday 11th December at 11am-1pm

Where: LASSN, 22-23 Blayds Yard, Leeds, LS1 4AD

About: You don’t need to see yourself as a leader to benefit from this workshop. It’s open to anyone interested in developing their communication and advocacy skills. You’ll explore what you think are the markers of an effective leader, you’ll learn how to communicate more assertively, and you’ll gain new confidence in presenting and advocating for yourself and others.

Key Areas Covered:

  • Understanding the qualities of effective leadership applicable to everyone.
  • Enhancing communication and assertiveness in various contexts.
  • Building confidence in presentation and advocacy for personal and community growth.

Sharing Our Journeys, A Celebration Event

We invite you to join us for a special celebration event where we can come together to reflect, share, and celebrate our collective learning. This is an opportunity to connect with others, enjoy some good food, showcase what you’ve learned, and highlight the personal and community growth we’ve all experienced.
