Covid messaging for culturally diverse communities in Leeds – we need your expertise and skills to really make a difference

Public Health and Leeds City Council have been working with partners across the city to keep communities safe. Forum Central is working with Public Health, the Communities Team, BME Hub, Leeds Refugee Forum and Migrant Access Project to deliver online webinar sessions. These are aimed at organisations and community groups who have trusted relationships with culturally diverse (BAME) communities in Leeds.

Leeds is a diverse city, home to people of many nationalities, ethnicities and languages. It is important that COVID-19 health messages are reaching all our communities; we call for your skills and expertise to make a difference in engaging culturally diverse communities. The webinar sessions will provide an overview of the current COVID-19 position, the context of this work, and the funding opportunities available for projects to help build capacity in Leeds.

 The agenda is:

  • The current COVID-19 position in Leeds from Public Health
  • Key COVID-19 messages – social distancing, face masks, wash hands, testing, wellbeing, staying connected
  • Engaging with culturally diverse communities – context for this area of work specifically and why we are targeting these groups; understanding the specific challenges we know people in these groups can face and what is currently happening
  • Funding opportunities and capacity building – how we can work together and/or as individual organisations to create a citywide, culturally diverse communities-led response to Covid-19, with access to funding  and ongoing support available to enable capacity from within your organisation.  This will include funding that organisations working with people from culturally diverse (Black, South Asian and minority ethnic) communities in the areas of greatest need (sometimes referred to as the 10% most deprived) will be able to access

There are two opportunities to access this introductory webinar, on the following dates. To register your interest in attending one of the sessions, please visit the following links:
