Free activities for refugees and asylum seekers at our weekly Theatre of Sanctuary Conversation Café.

Meet with our friendly volunteers for free Tea/Coffee, sandwiches, and creative activities every Wednesday 3.30pm – 4.30pm.

9th January to 27th March (no session on the 20th February).

Develop your language skills with Theatre of Sanctuary

We start the session with free tea and coffee. You are welcome to arrive from 3.15pm, and the session starts at 3.30pm. You will be given a warm welcome and introduced to some of our friendly volunteers.Once everyone has arrived we move on to our main activity. We do lots of different things, including song writing, poetry, hearing from guest speakers, themed discussion, and relaxed conversations. Over the term we will also work towards giving a group presentation at Heydays, our group for older people.

Our main building is being redeveloped this year.

The temporary location is:

7 Eastgate, Leeds, LS2 7LY

We will be on the second floor from 3.15pm

Spring Term 2019:

9th January – New Year’s Resolutions: Our first session back, we will write New Year’s resolutions and discuss our hopes for 2019.

16th January – Joke Translation Service: We will hear from theatre director Rebecca Marsh who is making a show about jokes in different languages. Bring your favourite jokes!

23rd January – Burns Night: With Scottish music, food and poetry, learn about Burns Night and celebrate together.

30th January – All About Leeds: Work with maps to explore favourite places in Leeds, the history of Leeds, and stories.

6th February – Making Music: Christella Litras will lead us in a song writing session. You can write, sing, play, or just listen!

13th February – Dinner 18:55: We will be joined by the director of the Leeds Playhouse show, Dinner 18:55, along with members of the cast. They will tell us about their new show, and answer our questions.

20th February – No Session, optional free theatre trip during the week instead.

27th February – Theatre Review: We will discuss our trip to the theatre and share our thoughts about the show with the group.

6th March – Presentation Preparation: We will finish getting ready for our group presentation.

13th March – St Patricks Day: In the morning we will give our group presentation (11am – 12pm). At Conversation Café (3.30pm – 4.30pm) we will celebrate our success with Irish music and food.

20th March 2019 – Dance and Music: For our end of term party we will be joined by a guest dancer who will lead us in group dancing. Feel free to bring food and music!
