Title of Conference: Learning and Sharing Together
Learning and Sharing Together is a day that will be filled with networking and learning best practices for City of Sanctuary volunteers, supporters and partners. The day will be an opportunity for City of Sanctuary groups and partners from across Yorkshire & Humberside to get together and mutually inspire and energise each other and learn by sharing issues, concerns and good news through informal dialogue and discussion sessions.
We are inviting delegates to bring three things to share:
- An informal information poster about your group
- A positive 200-word story
- 3 Issues that you care about
Your poster should include:
- Essential details about your CofS group
- Name, address, contact details – person to contact
- What you offer
- Who you partner
Using the poster each City of Sanctuary group will have two minutes to share their achievements and challenges.
Positive 200-word story:
The narrative can be an inspiring story or how your group started. How you found sanctuary – it can be anonymous. The stories will be displayed on the day and collated for later circulation.
The issues:
We ask that you let us know asap which 5 issues you feel we should have as a focus. They might be anything from resettlement, introduction to the asylum process, streams, legal matters, mental health, campaigning, advocacy etc., or something else that you feel passionate about. Once we have your choices we will arrange facilitators for the most appropriate issues. The same 5 issues will run 3 times giving you the opportunity not to miss out.
A draft programme is attached below and a final programme will follow closer to the time. Speakers include Jonathan Ellis, Vice-Chair of City of Sanctuary and Sian Summers-Rees Chief Officer of City of Sanctuary.

We can initially offer up to five places for each City of Sanctuary group.

The venue is Sandal Methodist Church, 253, Barnsley Road, WF1 5NU, It has plenty of free onsite parking. If you are arriving at Westgate Station take the Free Bus to the Bus Station, then get the 110 to Kettlethorpe or Hall Green. Ask for Busy Corner – when you leave the bus, go 100m up Barnsley Road to the venue.
If you come via Sandal and Agbrigg train station, when you leave the station turn left and walk to Barnsley Road. Go right at Barnsley Road and walk towards the venue. From Sandal and Agbrigg it is a 5 to 10-minute walk.
