Celebrating Refugees in Leeds: 1918-2018 – An exhibition at Leeds Central Library

What? Celebrating Refugees in Leeds: 1918-2018 – an exhibition

When? from the 11th of June 2019 til the 21st of June 2019 – and an opening event on the 11th from 5-6pm in the Gott Room

Where? The exhibition will take place in the foyer of the local and family history department of Leeds Central Library.

Our exhibition is focused around celebrating the experiences and lives of refugees in Leeds over the last 100 years. Refugees have often faced fierce media hostility, and this is something we wanted to challenge, highlighting their positive roles and experiences within the communities of Leeds. Using archives, newspapers, and interviews we have created a visual timeline highlighting the groups of refugees that have come to the city of Leeds over the last century and the experiences of their time here.

Working with our partner organisation LASSN (Leeds Asylum Seekers Support Network) we hope that this exhibition will highlight both the experiences of refugees in Leeds and the organisations and individuals who play a positive role in refugee experiences.
