We’re delighted to let you know that we’re presenting Opera North’s first ‘Theatre of Sanctuary Open Mic Night’ on Tuesday 26 October at 7.15pm. The evening will be hosted by Thandanani Gumede, and will include music by the fantastic Stone Flowers (https://www.musicaction.org/stone-flowers/), a Manchester based collective of musicians and who have fled torture and violence.
We have three 10 minute slots available to musicians from, or with a strong connection to, the refugee and asylum seeker community in West Yorkshire, and we hope you can help us find them by spreading the word. We are particularly interested in
- encouraging local talent
- presenting music from across the globe
- showcasing new and interesting collaborations between musicians from different backgrounds
If people would like to apply, can they respond to me with the following information by Friday 1 October 2021
- Name/the name of your group:
- What you play/your line-up (or backing track):
- Whether you have any experience of live performance (links to videos):
- What your technical requirements are:
- Contact details
If people are selected we will provide a small fee / travel expenses up to £50, refreshments and technical support (PA, mics, etc as required). And they would need to be available in the afternoon to come in and soundcheck. And if we think they are suitable but have filled the slots for this event, we will keep them on file for our next one early in 2022.
Please share this as widely as you can and we hope to get some great performers! And please also save the date in your diary – the event is pay as you feel, and we will also be offering Encore tickets so if you’d like to reserve some for your group, just let us know. More information will be sent out nearer the time as well.
All the very best,
Alice Gilmour | Community Partnerships & Access Manager | Opera North
