APPG on Refugees ‘Refugees Welcome?’ report

via Lorna at Regional Asylum Activism

The APPG on Refugees have launched their ‘Refugees Welcome?’ report, following a call for evidence in Autumn/Winter 2016. Organisations in Leeds submitted a compelling bundle of evidence, including direct testimonies from refugees and people seeking asylum themselves, highlighting many of the key issues faced by people seeking sanctuary in the UK.

The report makes a number of key recommendations for the next Government, including the establishment of a National Refugee Integration Strategy, the appointment of a cross-departmental Minister for Refugees, the extension of the move-on period for new refugees to 50 days and the re-establishment of a scheme similar to the Refugee Integration and Employment Service (RIES), amongst others.

The full report can be read here – http://www.refugeecouncil.org.uk/assets/0004/0316/APPG_on_Refugees_-_Refugees_Welcome_report.pdf – and we are encouraging organisations across the country to show their support for the report and its recommendations. You can do this by:

  • Sharing the report with your staff, supporters and friends;
  • Showing your support for the recommendations on social media: facebook, twitter, and other platforms, using the hashtag #refugeeswelcome;
  • Sharing the report with local MPs, prospective parliamentary candidates, Councillors, and Council staff.

Thank you again to everyone who gave their time to submit evidence to this inquiry! I hope you’re happy with the report, and I look forward to working with you to make the recommendations a reality.

Best wishes,

Lorna
